Master’s Degree and PH.D. Degree Programs

 

Program Introduction

Master’s program : Students are required to complete the curriculum between 2-3 years , fulfill the designate credits , complete the master’s thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts . Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with the master’s degree , according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.

 

Doctoral program : Students are required to complete the curriculum between 3-5 years , fulfill the designate number of credits , conduct research , complete the doctoral thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts . Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate with the doctoral degree , according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.

 

Note that there are only full-time courses offered for international students currently.

 

 

Application prerequisites:

Master’s program : Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport , under age of 40 , have attained a bachelor’s degree.

 

Doctor program : Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport , under age of 45 , have attained a master’s degree.

 

Application materials:

1、USTB Application Form for International Students with a photograph fixed. Please visit http://onlineapply.ustb.edu.cn/ , fill in the form and submit , then print a hardcopy to reference .

2、Graduation certificate and degree diploma (students expecting to graduate should provide an official letter stating expected graduation date, and submit the graduate diploma if admitted) , must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English.

3、Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to the present , including course taken and standard achieved , must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English.

4、A personal statement (800 words for master program , 1500 words for doctoral program , must be in Chinese or English) .

5、Two recommendation letters from your referees . The referees should be professors . At least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work . The format of the recommendation letters must be original documents either in Chinese or English .

6、A copy of your language test result :

        Chinese-taught program : HSK level 6 or above (new HSK level 5 , over 180 points);

        English-taught program : IELTS 6 points or above ; IBT 80 points or above.

7、One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary).

8、Table of contents and abstracts of your academic publications and any other original achievement in your field.

9、Health certificate from a public hospital.

 

Note : Two copies of application material are required , one original and one duplicate . Please hand in personally or sent them by post to International Students Office of USTB (the envelop must be marked “ Application for Graduate Admission). Incomplete application materials will be nor processed . Application materials will not be returned.

 

 

Application Process:

1、Register your details on http://onlineapply.ustb.edu.cn/ . Fill in the application form and submit .

2、International students office examine qualification of the applicant.

Unsuccessful

3、Within the specified application deadline , re-submit the erroneous/missing information.

Successful

3、Print a the application form and stick a photo , submit Application Materials and Application Fee to International Students Office of USTB.

4、Application Materials will be passed on to relevant subject Department . Application materials will be verified and if successful the applicant will be admitted.

5、International students office will declare the names of successful candidates accepted to their relevant program at the end of June .

6、International students office will send out admission letters to successful applicants in July.

 

Application fee:

600 RMB

Note : All the fees should be paid in cash . Credit card 、any other currency would be nor accept . Application without application fee will not be processed . The application fee will not be refundable .

 

 

Application period:

From March 1^st to June 30^th , please make sure mailed materials arrive before deadline.(The application period of scholarship please refer to "Scholarship Information")

Registration period :

At the end of August every year (specified in the Admission Letter)

 

Tuition fee (per year per person):

Chinese-taught Master’s program : 31600 RMB

English-taught Master’s program : 37600 RMB

Chinese-taught Doctoral program : 41600 RMB

English-taught Doctoral program : 41700 RMB

MBA program：40000 RMB

Medical insurance :

All international students must be medically insured though out their entire planned period of study . Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students on the day of registration . Students who do not have valid medical insurance will not be allowed to register .

 

Accommodation Information:

There are different types of housing facilities for international student at USTB.

Self-funded students are required to find their own living accommodation . Please note that students who live off campus must register to the local police station within 24 hours .

 

Visa information :

Students admitted to USTB may apply for your visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your country with your Admission Letter and JW201/202 form . International students who will study in China for 6 months are required to obtain “X” visa , which will valid for 30 days after you arrived in China . You must come to International Students Office and apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China.
