Dr. Sun Qiao of the University of Calgary Visits USTB

 

On October 12 Dr. Sun Qiao, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada, and Professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, visited USTB. Director of the International Office Guo Kanjun, Vice President of the School of Materials Science and Engineering Wang Luning, Vice President of Civil Engineering Geng Qiannan, and other university representatives were there to meet Dr. Sun.

         The two sides began by giving presentations on their respective institutions, including their colleges and disciplines. The focus of these presentations were on academic and student exchanges, cooperation in research projects, “2+2” “3+2” “3+1” exchange programs, and other issues. Both sides unanimously agreed that every effort should be make to deepen further cooperation and promote the signing of joint-contracts in the areas of student and teacher exchanges.

         University of Calgary Introduction:

         Originally founded in 1945 as Alberta University, it was renamed to Calgary University in 1966. The university is located in the western Canadian state of Alberta in the city of Calgary. Over 40 years the university has grown to be one of Canada’s most prominent research institutions. In attendance there are 19,801full-time undergraduates, 4,340 graduate students, and over 1,000 international students. In recent years as Alberta and the city of Calgary have financially prospered, the University of Calgary has received greater government funding towards research, so that it is now in the top 10 research-based Canadian universities. Additionally the school is recognized as one of the top educational institutions in the country. Its international tourism research and education center is recognized as one of the top in the world. Additionally, researchers working on various subjects including law, energy, environment, engineering, software, humanities and other fields have been widely recognized.
