USTB President Zhang Xinxin Visited Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University

From February 9th to 11th, 2015, President Zhang visited the Weill Cornell Medical College at Cornell University. The purpose of the visit was three aspects: to view the teaching and research methods of the college, to discuss the plans for a partnership with USTB, and to plan for the formulation of a medical curriculum at USTB. Mr. Sanford I. Weill, Chair Emeritus of the Board for the College, Dean Laurie Glimcher, Executive Vice Provost Stephen Cohen, Senior Associate Dean (Education) Barbara Hempstead and Senior Associate Dean (Research) Gary Koretzky met with President Zhang.

During the visit President Zhang was able to visit the Medical College’s surgical simulation center and learn more about the school’s curriculum and teaching methods, as well as its on-line library, biomedical center, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Afterwards the President discussed ways of improving future teaching methods and the plans for a partnership between the two schools for constructing a medical school at USTB in the future.
 
Brief Introduction to Weill Cornell Medical College
The Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University was founded in 1898 in New York City on the upper east side of Manhattan, and serves as a medical and graduate school. The college is affiliated with the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Rockefeller University. It is one of the top medical and biomedical research centers in the world. In 2001 Weill Cornell Medical College became the first U.S. university to set up an overseas campus, located in Doha, Qatar. As of 2014 the College has 2375 staff and 1287 students.
