USTB Makes Top Japanese Teacher Honorary Professor

On Nov, 19th, USTB held its 63rd China Distinguished Materials Scientists Forum, on which Prof. Fumitaka Tsukihashi was made an honorary professor of USTB. The ceremony was presided over by USTB International Office Director Prof. Wang Ge. USTB President Zhang Xinxin also attended the ceremony.

President Zhang awarded the certificate of honorary professor to Prof. Tsukihashi at the beginning of the ceremony. Afterwards, the new honorary professor delivered a speech titled “The Physical Chemistry of Iron-making and Steelmaking Processes”, which attracted a good number of teachers and postgraduates from the State Key Lab of Advanced Metallurgy, the School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering and the School of Materials Science and Engineering.  

Prof. Tsukihashi has served as member, counselor and vice-chairman of the Iron & Steel Institute Japan, member of the Mining and Materials Processing Institute of Japan, and associate editor and chief editor of ISIJ International, a world-renowned journal of metallurgy. As the head of the delegation of the Iron & Steel Institute Japan, he has taken an active part in the Sino-Japanese bilateral exchanges in the field of iron and steel many times. The former dean of the Department of Advanced Materials Science, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, the University of Tokyo, mainly studies the high purity and high performance of metallurgical products, and the recycling of metal and environmentally-friendly metallurgical technology. He has published over 150 academic papers, nearly 100 conference papers and three monographs. 

Under the Ministry of Education’s auspices for top teachers from abroad, Prof. Tsukihashi is invited to visit USTB from Nov.18th to 21st, during which time academic communication and discussion will be held between him and teachers from the State Key Lab of Advanced Metallurgy.
