University of Queensland Professor Talks Research Projects and Exchange Programs at USTB

On Nov. 26th, 2012, Prof. Paul Strooper, Dean of the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ), delivered a lecture entitled “ICT Research in a Rapidly Changing World, to a crowd of USTB students. Prof. Zhang Xiaotong, USTB’s Deputy Dean of the School of Computer & Communication Engineering, met with the distinguished guest and attended the lecture.

Prof. Zhang extended a warm welcome to Prof. Strooper. The University of Queensland, established in 1910, carries with it a long, reputable history and is currently one of the largest universities in Australia. The University of Queensland School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering is currently engaged in 10 primary research projects, which Prof. Strooper outlined in detail to the audience. These projects include MRI extra-corporal CT scanning, the application of search algorithms in searching for videos online, copyright protection of videos, monitor operating systems of online video streaming and the collection of information through intelligent terminals such as cell-phones.

Prof. Zhang, gave the audience a detailed overview of the makeup and projects of USTB’s School of Computer & Communication Engineering, and expressed hope that the two schools could continue to cooperate in the future at a high level.

After the conclusion of both speeches, Prof. Strooper fielded questions from students in the audience about the prospects of studying at UQ.

Before the lecture, Prof. Strooper conversed with staff from USTB’s Office of H.K., Macao and Taiwan about the “3+1+1” exchange programs between the two universities in the fields of computer science, communication engineering and automation. USTB students majoring in the aforementioned areas and interesting in studying in Australia are encouraged to contact USTB’s International Office for further information about taking part in an exchange to the University of Queensland.
