Dean of the Cornell University Medical School Dr. Laurie Glimcher Visited USTB
On July 2-3, 2015, a delegation consisting of the Dean of the Weill Cornell Medical College Dr. Laurie Glimcher, Senior Associate Dean Dr. Barbara Hempstead, Vice Dean for Research Dr. Gary Koretzky, Dean of Weill Cornell-Qatar Dr. Javaid Sheikh, and Executive Vice Provost Stephen Cohen visited USTB. The followed USTB President Zhang Xinxin visit to Washington D.C. on June 22-25, to participate at the sixth round of Sino-U.S. cultural exchanges. This was the first time WCMC representatives had visited USTB, and they were greeted by President Zhang Xinxin, Vice-president Wang Ge, and others.
During his visit to Washington, President Zhang met with U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and WCMC Chairman of the Board Jessica Bibliowicz to discuss issues regarding the construction of the medical school. Subsequently the two schools officially signed an agreement to establish a joint medical college. The agreement was signed at the sixth round of Sin-U.S. cultural exchange, and signifies that the agreement has entered the substantive planning phase.
The visit by the WCMC delegation was conducive to deepening relations between our two schools and laying the foundation for the future medical college. During the visit both sides exchanged presentations of current medical research and held discussions on a number of topics. Dr. Glimcher expressed her admiration for USTB’s combination of biology, materials, machinery, and engineering in the medical field. During the visit the delegation also visited USTB’s clinic, the Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital, and learned about local community hospitals, medical standards and management, and other topics.
