A Walk for Relaxation: USTB Students Attend the “2012 Long Walk around Kunming Lake for International Students”

On Oct. 27th, the “2012 Long Walk around Kunming Lake for International Students,” an eight-kilometer walk around Kunming Lake located in the Summer Palace, was host to numerous universities and over 800 foreign friends, including students from USTB. Jessica Li and Les Honywill from the International Office of USTB led 40 international students to participate in this activity.

The theme of the walk was to “Embrace Your Wonderful Life and Experience Beijing Spirit.” It advocated exercising in a relaxed manner.

The opening ceremony of the event had representatives from numerous cultures from around the world presenting performances to the crowd, which included drum beating, songs and popular South Korean Dancing. After the captivating performances the walk officially began.

USTB international students started from the Wenchang Galleries. The students strolled along the east bank of Kunming Lake, past the Seventeen-Arch Bridge and walked through the Plowing and Weaving Scenery Area. For many it was an excellent opportunity to feel the cool autumn breeze and feast their eyes on the gorgeous maple leaves that glowed a fiery red, while they listened to the motley prattle of birds.

Most students managed to finish their walk in 1.5 hours. The Long Walk was a great opportunity for these international students to feel free of mind, happy of heart, and to experience the true beauty of autumn in Beijing.
