2015 Cross-Strait Youth Entrepreneurship Forum Held at USTB


On July 6, 2015, USTB hosted the 2015 Cross-Strait Youth Entrepreneurship Forum. In attendance were Deputy Director Zhao Lingshan from the MOE (Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs), USTB Chancellor Luo Weidong, President Zhang Xinxin, Pingtung University of Science and Technology President Dai Changxian, Yunlin University Science and Technology President Hou Chunkan, Vice-president Huang Zhenjia, and Taipei University of Science and Technology Vice-president Li Wenlong. The opening ceremony was presided over by USTB Vice-president Wang Ge, with over 200 attendees from 14 Taiwan universities and 3 mainland universities.  
 
President Zhang delivered the opening address. He talked about how the world is rapidly developing, with the internet revolution having a deep impact on society. USTB has dedicated itself to nurturing the innovative talents of its students, who act as a force for innovation as future entrepreneurs. He concluded by hoping that educators on both sides of the Strait would continue working to nurture students’ entrepreneurial spirit.

Deputy Director Zhao praised USTB for the many activities it had organized to promote cross-strait relations. He talked about how data showed that is recent years cross-strait activities in the fields of education, culture, and trade were on the rise, and that such exchanges were invaluable for all parties. He finished by asking the students to work together and learn from each other, and then wished the forum much success.

President Dai spoke about recent innovations in business that affected today’s entrepreneurs. He praised increasing development and entrepreneurial awareness in both Taiwan and the mainland, and hoped the two sides could learn from one another and achieve success down the road.

Following the opening ceremony were business and entrepreneurial discussion groups where academics, entrepreneurs, teachers, students delivered lectures on various subjects and discussed their mutual experiences. President Hou shared his experience with entrepreneur education at YunTech. Various speakers discussed technological innovations, including UMOV CEO Li Dongshuo, d-Heaven Chairman Wang An, Design Director Fang Musheng from Farmerson Architects, and Horton Soft CEO Cao Xiaogang. Young entrepreneurs including Wang Duan and Wang Ruihao also related their stories. Overall the interaction between the students and the teachers was encouraging, with all sides learning from one another.

Over the next 6 days the participants were engaged with a number of different activities, including an entrepreneurship contest and visits to a business park for practical demonstration. The participants also enjoyed cultural activities including going to Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall, and the Temple of Heaven. Such activities served to inspire the students to with a greater entrepreneurial spirit.
