"Open a Window into the World" - 2012 USTB International Students Cultural Festival Held with Great Success

 In recent years USTB has flung its doors open to the world inviting knowledge, experience and diversity to pour in. The ensuing result was the arrival of hundreds of international students, a group that has more than doubled in size since 2008.

With 116 countries represented at the university, it only seemed fitting to hold an event that properly showed off the wide range of cultural backgrounds. On April 15^th, on the 60^th anniversary of USTB, the Open a Window into the World 2012 USTB International Students Cultural Festival was held with great success, and representative of the enormous progress the university has made in the past six decades.

During the daytime, international students decorated approximately 40 booths with pictures, videos, sculptures and clothes in demonstration of their unique cultural heritages and nationalities. Some students performed dances and songs in front of their booths kindling the enthusiasm of the entire court. Prof. Luo Weidong, Chancellor of USTB, was in attendance to take in the cultural cuisine and get introduced to the diversity of different customs.

At night, more than 20 shows were performed on stage by international students, including dancing, singing, instrument playing and the performance of martial arts. The event was attended by: Prof. Luo Weidong, Chancellor of USTB, Prof. Xu Jinwu, President of USTB, Prof. Xie Hui, Vice-Chancellor of USTB, Prof. Zhang Xinxin, Prof. Zhang Yue, Prof. Sun Dongbai and Prof. Wang Weicai, Vice-Presidents of USTB, as well as deans and heads from all departments as well as also officials from foreign embassies. During the show, the screen on stage showed the felicitations given by international students to the school's 60^th birthday while cameras flashed throughout the crowd, seizing the wonderful moments of the day. The performances proved to be a huge success, leaving the crowd roaring in applause.
