Tohoku University Director of Institute for Materials Research Visits USTB

On March 12th, the Director of the Institute for Materials Research at the Tohoku University in Japan, Profs. Atsushu Muramatsu and Shu Yin visited USTB and signed a cooperation agreement. They were received by President Zhang Xinxin and Vice President Lu Zhaoping.

President Zhang welcomed the visiting Director and his delegation. He spoke of how USTB and Tohoku University have collaborated for nearly 20 years, making outstanding achievements in the exchange of teachers and undergraduate students, and joint scientific research. He expressed his hope to that the two schools would use this meeting as an opportunity to further promote academic exchanges between the two universities in a win-win partnership.

Vice President Lu spoke of his hope that the schools would implement cooperation projects between USTB School of Materials Science and Tohoku University’s Institute for Materials Research to realize mutual benefits.

In the morning, the signing ceremony between the USTB School of Materials Science and Engineering and Tohoku University’s Institute for Materials Research was held at the School of Materials Science.

Present at the signing ceremony from USTB were Guo Kanjun, Director of the International Office, Wang Luning, Dean of the Material Institute, Vice President Cao Wenbin, and Pang Xiaolu, Assistant Dean, and from Tohoku University were Prof. Atsushi Muramatsu, Director of the Institute for Materials Research, and Prof. Shu Yin.

To begin, Dean Wang gave a welcome speech for the visiting professors. He briefly introduced the School of Materials Science and reviewed the long-standing history of cooperation between the USTB School of Materials Science and faculty of Tohoku University. He spoke of his hope for further cooperation in research and development, student exchange, and joint training. Afterwards, Director Guo Kanjun warmly welcomed the two professors and detailed the cooperation between USTB and Tohoku University. She also expressed her hope that the signing ceremony would be an opportunity to push friendly cooperation between the two universities to a new level.

Afterwards, Prof. Muramatsi introduced the present situation at of the Institute for Materials Research. He expressed his desire to cooperate with the USTB School of Materials Science and Technology in student training, academic exchanges, and joint seminars.

Director Guo Kanjun was awarded the title of “Visiting Professor” by Professor Muramatsu on behalf of Tohoku University. Dean Wang and Professor Muramatsu signed an agreement on cooperation between laboratories and took a group photo. After the signing of the contract, the two parties discussed the details of future cooperation in research and student exchanges.

The successful signing at the ceremony further promotes USTB’s internationalization efforts and aids in achieving the Materials Institute’s long-term plans in talent cultivation and academic research.
