USTB Participates in 2nd Annual Chinese Culture Festival

From May 20-21, a team from USTB participated in the second annual “China International Student Culture Sunshine Sports”. The team comprised of eight international students including Ke Niya, Xiao Xing, Huang Shili, Chenshi Anhui, Ai De, Yi Guo, Chaogeba Douerhu, and Dan Niya and two Chinese students Wu Wanrong and Liang Junming. Guo Kailin from the International Office led the team.
The event was divided into three parts: an art exhibition, off road competition, and basketball game. During the art exhibition Ke Niya performed a Chinese dance that resembled painting upon the air. There were also demonstrations of singing, poetry, and tea ceremony. Everyone assembled greatly praised the dance and its beauty.
The off road competition required the participation of all 10 students as they participated in a relay race. Together they worked hard and won fourth place. Before the race Guo Kailin invited Wu Wanrong to explain to the other students the basic idea behind the use of the compass and orienteering on a map to successfully complete the race.
Following that was a 3 on 3 basketball game where each match lasted 10 minutes. The USTB team consisted of Ai De, Yi Guo, and Chaogeba Douerhu, who together won third place.
At the end of the competition USTB had scored 65 points in total, putting it in 7th place out of 15 universities. Afterwards the students talked about how they had become closer as friends through the competition and also gained a greater understanding of Chinese culture.
The “China International Student Culture Sunshine Sports” is organized by the Ministry of Education and conforms to the idea of “sports, teamwork, building ties between Chinese and foreign friends”. It aims to enrich the lives of international students in China, build ties with the local population, and help them gain a greater appreciation for Chinese culture.
