On May 17, 2015, USTB held the 2015 World Culture Festival at 10 am on the school basketball courts. Students from 65 different countries participated in the festival, presenting on their native and culture and giving dance performances. Deputy Secretary-General of the China Scholarship Council Wang Shenggang, USTB President Zhang Xinxin, Vice-president Wang Ge, and members of the China Scholarship Council visited the festival.
In the exhibition area students showed off pictures, fabrics, clothing and tapestries. Booths were decorated with handicrafts, food and drink. Students also put on dance exhibitions in their native costumes. Altogether with representatives from 65 countries it was a grand affair.
At 1 pm the students began their dance performances in native dress, which received warm applause from the audience. Despite the onset of thunderstorms and rain some students persevered and continued their performances.
By the end of this year, World Culture Festival has been successfully held for eight times. This year’s successful World Culture Festival highlighted the diversity of exchange students at USTB and gave them a platform to showcase their cultural heritage while also learning about others. It also was a good opportunity for both foreign and Chinese students to come together and build mutual understanding. In the future the International Student Center will continue to work towards improving the integration of foreign students at USTB.
