USTB Holds Bilateral Seminar with the University of Queensland, Canada

         On June 6 USTB held a bilateral seminar with representatives from the University of Queensland as part of the “USTB International Year” series of activities. The meeting was meant to deepen relations and understandings between the two universities with an eye at promoting cooperation in research and student exchanges. Attending the meeting on behalf of the University of Queensland was Prof. Scott Yam, Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Prof. Shahram Yousefi, Director of the Department of Electronic and Computational Engineering, who presented their academic reports. From USTB there were Professor Jiang Yong, Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Vice President of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Hu Nailian, Vice President of Geng Qian, Vice President of Computer and Communication Engineering Department, Ning Huansheng Vice President, and other related leaders and guests. Cooperation between the two schools was discussed, and more than 50 students and teachers attended the meeting.

       Mrs. Guo Kanjun, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange, welcomed the guests and presided over the meeting. She discussed how USTB has always attached great importance to international cooperation and exchanges, and has established cooperative relations with more than 150 world-renowned universities and research institutions, carrying out joint training of students and teachers. She expressed her hope that through this seminar USTB and the University of Queensland would become even more close in the future.

       Prof. Scott Yam, Prof. Shahram Yousefi, Prof. Bruce C. Anderson, Professor Christopher A. Pickles, Prof. Li Hongxu, Prof. Li Zifu, Prof. Sun Chunbao and Du Bing's all delivered lectures on their respective research and achievements. The topics included the areas of depth communication, light communication, cloud computing, large data, precious metal extraction, water environmental protection and other fields, and hot issues and research difficulties were discussed. Both sides expressed interest in expanding student exchange, while Professor Bruce C. Anderson and Professor Li Zifu also agreed on pursuing joint applications for scientific research projects.

       The symposium was hosted by the USTB International Office and the School of Computer and Communication Engineering. The success of the seminar has played a positive role in promoting cooperation in the fields of computer science, communications, metallurgy, civil engineering, and environment. USTB takes the international year as an opportunity to build an international academic exchange platform, promote in-depth cooperation with world-renowned universities, and further enhance the school's international reputation and influence.

       Introduction to the University of Queensland:

       The University of Queensland was founded in 1841 and is today counted as one of Canada’s top universities, even being referred to as part of the “Canadian Ivy League”. It is highly regarded for its excellence in academics and teaching. The university has six colleges: the Humanities and Sciences, Law, Business, Education, Engineering and Applied Science, and Health Science. It also has first-class MBA and medical schools. The university is well known for employing top experts in the fields across a number of specialties.
