USTB Confers Honorary Title on Cambridge Professor

On April 19th, 2013, a ceremony was held by USTB to make Prof. Christopher Cullen, Director of the Needham Research Center at Cambridge University, an honorary professor.

Prof. Luo Weidong, Chancellor of USTB and President of the Institute of the Science, Technology and Civilization, awarded the certificate to Prof. Cullen and delivered a speech on behalf of USTB. In his speech, Chancellor Luo reviewed the long history of cooperation between USTB and the Needham Research Institute, and expressed sincere gratitude to Prof. Cullen for his contribution to promoting the history of science and technology as a discipline in USTB.

With Prof. Wang Ge, Director of the International Office, presiding, the ceremony was attended by leaders from the institutes and departments concerned, including the History of Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

After the ceremony, Prof. Cullen was invited to the Metallurgy Forum, an academic activity at USTB, to deliver a speech titled “The Old Needham Question and a New Needham Question: Long-term Issues in Chinese Science and Technology Development”.
