Impressions of the World and Asia

On December 13 the International Office organized the event “Impressions of the World and Asia”. Teachers from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Bangladesh as well students participated. Also attending the event was Director of the International Office Zhao Liying. More than 50 Chinese and international students attended the event, which was hosted by International Office representative Guo Kailin.

First, students were given an introduction to Thailand, with a discussion on Thai culture and food with an emphasis on the staple items eaten across the country. Next, students from Bangladesh and then Sri Lanka introduced their own countries and delivered some interesting facts which greatly impressed the audience. Following that a representative from Vietnam shared some of their country’s cuisine. The various foods evoked a desire amongst the crowd to immediately buy tickets to visit the various countries and eat their national cuisines.

Afterwards the representatives from Thailand and Vietnam gave out samples of the foods they discussed, including some Vietnamese spring rolls, which were greatly enjoyed by the audience. Many asked about the method of preparation for each item.

“Impressions of the World” is an activity organized by the International Office which invites students from around the world to share information on their country’s culture, food, travel information, music, movies, and other items of interest, in order to help other students gain a greater appreciation for their country. These activities have helped to foster an international campus environment and aid in the integration of Chinese and international students.

Notification of future events will be posted by the International Office.
