On Sept. 17th, a ceremony to appoint international students as ambassadors to spread Chinese culture was held at Beijing Lao She Teahouse. This ceremony, also a celebration of the approaching Mid-autumn Festival, attracted over 200 international students from several universities (USTB included). Officials from the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education attended the ceremony.
Beijing Lao She Teahouse selected 22 international students as ambassadors to promote traditional Beijing and tea culture. After the appointment ceremony, artists with the teahouse and international students jointly staged an art performance. Guo Linkai, teacher from the International Student Center of USTB, Uzbekistani student GaripovaIlgizaand Turkmenian student AkmamedovKurbanmuhammedwere invited to join the performance. The ceremonies consisted of traditional performances, including the tea ceremony, variety shows and the face-changing ceremony given by teahouse artists. The modern dance performed by the two USTB international students and performances staged by international students from other universities connected China with the world and the ancient with the modern.
International students also experienced different traditional activities to celebrate the Mid-autumn Festival, such as making moon cakes, making sugar figures and practicing Chinese calligraphy.
