USTB Delegations Attends 8th Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform

Recently the 8th Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform (SEEEP) was held at Aalto University in Finland. The event was hosted by the Sino-EU Engineering Education Alliance, with the theme “Integrating Entrepreneurship Education in Engineering Colleges”. Institutions participating in the event included Aalto University, the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, University of Leuven in Belgium, Tongji University in Belgium, Harbin Institute of Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, South China University of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University and many other Central European universities. USTB was also invited and engaged with participating universities. Attending the event was China’s ambassador to Finland Chen Li, who delivered one of the opening speeches. The opening ceremony was jointly chaired by Ilkka Niemel, President of Aalto University, and Wu Jiang, Executive Vice President of Tongji University.

Since it was established in 2010, the Sino-EU Engineering Education Alliance has carried out a wide range of activities between Chinese and European counterparts such as the Sino-EU Graduate School of Sustainable Engineering, a Sino-EU high-level summer camp, and the inter-university student and teacher activities have promoted bilateral cooperation and development. At the event over 20 universities met to discuss the platform’s development and achievements, especially in the areas of entrepreneurship in universities, sustainable development, and promoting innovative education. Additionally, USTB representatives met with counterparts from Leuven University and the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden to discuss exchange programs.

During the seminar, the Sino-EU President’s Summit was held to discuss in-depth t how to further deepen existing cooperation and mutual understanding, discussing the realization of sustainable development of SEEEP and expedite student exchange between countries, boost the effectiveness of the summer school along with a doctoral program. Both China and Europe will continue to improve the university engineering education and training methods, promote cooperation between universities and enterprises, enhance the students' innovative spirit and engineering practices, and jointly promote substantive cooperation in training high-level engineering personnel in China and the EU.

The Sino-EU Engineering Education Alliance is made up of 18 Chinese universities and 12 European universities. The Alliance promotes wide-ranging cooperation between members in the areas of engineering education, student and teacher exchanges, training and the development of new educational resources, and scientific research.

In 2010, 12 Chinese and 12 European universities (CLUSTER) held the first “Sino-European Engineering Education Seminar” in Shanghai. There they signed the “"Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China and European Union of Polytechnic University Education Research Alliance on Sino-European Engineering Education Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding” and co-founded SEEEP. Since then Chinese and European universities have taken turns hosting the annual conference.
