Lulea University of Technology Sends Delegation to USTB

On the morning of September 22, President Johan Sterte of Sweden’s Lulea University of Technology led a delegation to USTB for a one-day visit. USTB President Zhang Xinxin and Vice President Wang Ge met the delegation, along with the heads of various schools of USTB. The two sides briefed each other on their respective universities and discussed possible areas of future collaboration.

 

President Zhang spoke about that USTB has become one of China’s leading engineering and multidisciplinary universities after over 60 years of development, and referred to as the “cradle of steel engineers”. USTB has become well regarded in the fields of metallurgy, materials, mining, mechanical engineering and other disciplines, contributing greatly to scientific research and producing many esteemed alumni. At the same time the university places great important on international exchange, and has formed partnerships with over 140 universities and research institutions. He ended by wishing that USTB and Lulea would be able to form a lasting partnership. 

 

Next President Sterte introduced Lulea. Founded in 1971, Lulea is a multidisciplinary university specializing in science, technology, and management, and also possessing schools known for teaching mining, materials, energy, and IT. At present it is pursuing research in cooperation with companies like Shell, Volvo Aero, IBM, and Facebook. President Sterte shared his belief that the two universities shared many similarities and had several opportunities to collaborate including academic, student, and teacher exchanges, along with joint research.

 

After the exchange the delegation visited the USTB history museum and Olympic gymnasium. In the afternoon they visited School of Civil Engineering, School of Humanities and Law, and School of Economics and Management, discussing issues for possible exchanges with professors there. The visit has laid the foundation for deeper ties between USTB and Lulea University, with the hope both schools will engage in future collaboration.
