On May 19 the USTB International Office hosted a symposium on the education of international students, which was presided over by Director Zhao Liying of the International Office and attended by the teachers working with international students.
Director Zhao briefed the assembled teachers on the standards and expectations that USTB held for the training of international students as well as the program for quality certification. Amongst the teachers who spoke at the symposium and shared their experiences teaching international students were School of Computer and Communication Engineering Associate Professor Yao Lin, Professor Huang Xiaolu, Professor of School of Mathematics, Professor Zheng Lianquan, Professor Wang Danling, Professor Cao Limei, Professor Dong Zhin School of Economics and Management, Professor Liu Xiaojing, Professor Peng Rui, and Professor Liu Jing, Faculty of Arts and Law. Their suggestions included working closely with the students to better ascertain their foundational knowledge and individual characteristics, adopt a more flexible teaching style, and be open to extracurricular counseling and see the students outside of the classroom.
International Office representatives responsible for monitoring the undergraduate and graduate international students were on hand to receive feedback from the teachers.
