USTB International Office Fire Safety Event Successfully Held
For the purpose of teaching the student population about fire safety and improve their response to emergencies, on the afternoon of May 23 USTB held a fire evacuation drill at the international student dorms. Over 300 teachers and students participated in the activity.
At 1 pm, Deputy Director of the International Department Li Baoming commenced the exercise, and security staff entered the dorms to deploy smoke tablets to simulate a fire and stimulate the smoke detectors. Emergency doors immediately opened and the international students calmly and orderly evacuated the buildings. As a mark of their orderliness the entire evacuation took on 2 minutes and 7 seconds, an excellent time that could save lives.
After the evacuation, safety and security staff gave a demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers to the international students. They were calmly walked through the steps of using the extinguishers so that in the event of a real fire they would be prepared. The demonstration thereby concluded the safety event.
By participating in the fire drill students learned proper emergency measures and routes to see them safely out the building in the event of a real fire. The USTB International Office organizes such drills every year to teach students fire safety and enhance the students’ response times to emergencies.
