De Montfort President Visits USTB

On April 10th, a delegation led by Prof. Dominic Shellard, president of De Montfort University (DMU) paid a visit to USTB. USTB Chancellor Luo Weidong met with the delegation on behalf of the school. During their meeting, they discussed future cooperation plans, establishing an international school of creative technologies and developing the DMU Confucius Institute.

During Chancellor Luo’s visit to DMU this March, the two universities reached a preliminary agreement on co-establishing an international school of creative technologies. This time they had a closer discussion about the schedule and roadmap for establishing this school, the majors to be set up within it and its plan of operations.

In addition, USTB named Prof. Shellard as an honorary professor of USTB in recognition of his academic achievements and authority in postwar English drama studies. Chancellor Luo awarded the medal to Prof. Shellard on the morning of April 10th. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Wang Ge, assistant to USTB President, Prof. Zhang Qiuman, dean of SFS, and Prof. Chen Hongwei, deputy-dean of SFS.

Afterwards, Prof. Shellard delivered an academic report titled “Not of an age, but for all time: The paradox of Shakespeare”. This meeting further strengthened the two universities academic exchanges, as they plan to start joint training programs for PhD students.
