On Oct. 16th, Prof. Luo Weidong, Chancellor of USTB, visited Sunchon National University to attend the “2012 Joint International Symposium of USTB, CYUT, XAUAT on University Specialization”. The USTB delegation included Prof. Long Keping, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Communication Engineer, Prof. Qiu Hong, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Physics, Prof. Tu Jiming, Director of the Auditing Department, and Prof. Guo Kanjun, Vice-Director of the Office of H.K., Macao, and Taiwan Affairs.

Prof. Song Yingwu, President of Sunchon National University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, conveying his congratulations to the success  of the Symposium, and extended his welcome to all of the delegates. In his speech he delivered a brief review of the history of this Symposium, mentioning that USTB and Sunchon were the initiators of this annual tradition. Looking into the future, he expressed his wish that, by offering opportunities for professors from the three districts to communicate with each other, this Symposium would foster more academic and cultural exchange between the four schools. Chancellor Luo expressed the fond hope that the four universities could keep up the practice of academic communication and cooperation while exploring new fields of exchange programs of teachers and students.

“University specialization” was the theme of this year’s Symposium. Following that, Prof. Long Keping and Prof. Guo Kanjun from USTB presented, respectively, two thematic reports, namely “The Status Quo of Education of the School of Computer Science and Communication Engineering” and “the 3-I Educational Theory of USTB”. All delegates, discussing the educational ideas of their schools, shared with each other paths to success their universities had taken.

This Joint International Symposium had given impetus to interuniversity communication, fostered joint partnership and established a sound foundation for future collaboration.
