USTB Signs Cooperative Agreement with Kasetsart University

On the morning of April 21, a delegation from Kasetsart University in Thailand led by President Chongrak Wachrinrat and Vice President Korchoke Chantawarangul visited USTB and were met by President Zhang Xinxin. Also present to meet the visitors were Qu Xuanhui, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology, Vice President Dong Chaofang, Professor Li Xiaogang, Director of the Corrosion Control and Systems Engineering Institute, and Guo Kanjun, Director of the International Office.

                President Zhang began by extending a warm welcome to the visiting delegation during USTB’s 65th anniversary celebration, and President Wachrinrat responded by congratulating the university for its long history. President Zhang then expressed his hope that through signing a cooperative agreement the two universities would be able to engage in open collaboration to strengthen bilateral ties and an ongoing friendship.

                During the meeting the two sides expressed optimism for the development of future projects and emphasized the importance of cooperation. President Zhang spoke of how the Corrosion Control and Systems Engineering Institute was the largest of its kind in the world, and in March of 2017 had won three awards at an international conference thereby demonstrating its growing international influence. The Institute won an “Outstanding Scientific Research Institution Award", Professor Li Xiaogang won an outstanding technical contribution award, and Professor Lu Minxu was awarded the honorary title of ‘NACE Fellow’. He then spoke of how Kasetsart University was one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Thailand, and how both universities would have ample opportunities for collaboration, especially in the field of corrosion research. President Wachrinrat then delivered his speech, first congratulating USTB on its accomplishments before giving an overview of the history of Kasetsart University. He expressed his optimism that the two universities would work well together and looked forward to them establishing a more comprehensive relationship in the future and commence mutually beneficial projects.

                After the discussion President Zhang and President Wachrinrat signed an MOU agreement between the two universities. The schools, through USTB’s Corrosion Control and Systems Engineering Institute, will carry out corrosion research and education as well as engage in student & teacher exchanges, hold joint seminars, and share resources as part of China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative.
