“Hi World” Student Organization Hosts International Culinary Event

       In order to better enrich the lives of USTB international students and foster friendships with their Chinese peers, the Hi World student group hosted a joint-cooking session on the evening of May 15 in the university cafeteria. Over 30 students divided into 9 teams participated in the event.

       The event had each team prepare a homemade dish from their hometown within a time limit, after which the students would try each entry and vote on the top dishes. Working together the students began to resemble professional chefs, moving swiftly around the kitchen and racing against time. Meanwhile, the Hi World members organized a number of games with students who weren’t cooking in the event. At the conclusion of the games the audience waited patiently for the dishes to be completed, at which point the taste testing began. After a round of voting the first place prize was given to a dish from the east African nation of Eritrea, called “zigni”.
