A Spring Outing: Strawberry Picking

On Mar. 30th, teachers and students from the Chinese Language Teaching Center of USTB’s International Office participated in a spring outing of strawberry picking. The site of the event was a Carrot Farm in the Changping District of northern Beijing.  

Once inside the warm and cozy greenhouses, the students were treated to a fun-filled experience, getting to fill their baskets with all of the strawberries that they could pick. This served to be a unique experience for many, as a large number of students hadn’t had the opportunity to pick strawberries before.

One African student said cheerfully that he adored strawberries now, remarking that he previously had little interest in the fruit. “That is because Chinese strawberries are so sweet and juicy!” he exclaimed in delight.

Chinese-practicing activities of this nature will be held monthly by the Chinese Language Teaching Center. With these events, international students have the opportunity to not only participate in extra-curricular activities but also learn more about Beijing. However, most importantly, the activities present an opportunity for students to practice and improve their Chinese outside of the classroom.
