USTB Hosts 2015 “Innovation and Integration” International Forum

On the morning of October 27, the 2015 “Innovation and Integration” International Forum was held in the USTB library. Representatives from 21 global partners gathered in the Forum.

 

During the opening ceremony Vice President Wang Ge welcomed all the guests, and talked about the purpose of the Forum was to discuss how to strengthen international cooperation and exchange. The Forum was convened to explore international education strategies around the themes of “university internationalization development strategy” and “international talent cultivation”, with the hope of promoting stronger academic ties between the participants.

 

The delegates included Canada’s Queens University, McMaster University, Belgium’s KU Leuven, Australia’s University of Wollongong, England’s University of Birmingham, and some other prestigious universities all over the world. Keynote speakers from USTB and the other universities discussed their university’s strategies of dealing with new opportunities and challenges, and shared their ideas and approaches on international development and cultivating talents. For example McMaster University shared their approach to “integrated development”, where an interdisciplinary collaboration in research and development are undertaken. At the University of Waterloo they have created a unique business incubator called “Velocity Science” which promotes an entrepreneurial environment for students to create their own businesses. After delivering their keynote speeches the delegates broke into smaller groups to exchange their views on inter-school cooperation, student exchanges, and other topics.

 

In order to strengthen teacher and student exchanges between USTB and its partners, delegates were taken on visits to research facilities, and also delivered presentations on overseas student exchange programs, providing a good opportunity for students and teachers to build closer ties. During the event USTB signed a new intercollegiate agreement with the University of British Columbia, renewed its cooperative agreements with McMaster University and the University of Dundee, and agreed on new opportunities for collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Pohang University of Science and Technology.

 

 

Also participating at the Forum were President Chin Chung-jen from Taiwan’s Chaoyang University of Technology, President Yeongmoo Song from South Korea’s Sunchon National University, President Sanqing Su from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, Associate Vice President Peter Mascher from Canada’s McMaster University, USTB President Zhang Xinxin and Vice President Wang Ge, as well as school representatives and students.
