Minister of Irish Ministry of Education Visited USTB
On March 14th, the Irish delegation led by Mr. Ciaran Cannon, Minister of State for Training and Skills, and Prof. Paul McCutcheon, Vice President of the University of Limerick (UL) visited USTB. Prof. Xu Jinwu, President of USTB, Prof. Zhang Yue, Vice President in charge of international cooperation, Prof. Zhao Feng, Director of the President’s Office, Prof. Wang Xitao, Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development and Prof. Wang Ge, Director of the International Office met with the delegates.
Prof. Xu Jinwu extended his warmest welcome to the delegates and introduced our development in the past 60 years, and our achievements in fields encompassing scientific research and education, disciplinary construction and international exchange programs. According to Prof. Xu, USTB has active cooperation with Irish universities. Last year 5 students of USTB were sent to Ireland to study at the University of Limerick, and the number will grow to 7 this September. Prof. Xue hoped more students can benefit from these close ties.
Mr. Cannon, Minister of Irish Ministry of Education, expressed his gratitude to our warm welcome, and granted us an overview of Irish higher education. He mentioned that Irish higher education is of high quality, providing foreign students with excellent studying conditions, and he indicated a wish for more outstanding students from USTB to further their studies in Ireland.
Later, Prof. McCutcheon gave us an overview of the University of Limerick. He was amazed at the exceptional work students from USTB have accomplished in UL, and he wished that UL’s high-quality education and advanced facilities could attract more students to study there.
After the conference, Minister Cannon and Prof. McCutcheon met with the seven students from USTB who would further their studies in UL this September.
