Vice President Wang Ge Leads Delegation to Sino-EU Engineering Education Symposium

From October 21-22 the 6th Sino-EU Engineering Education Symposium and the 25th Consortium Linking Universities of Science and Technology for Education and Research (CLUSTER) was held in Eindhoven, Netherlands. USTB Vice President Wang Ge led a delegation to the Symposium and was invited to deliver a presentation entitled “USTB Engineering Education in Cooperation with EU Universities”.

In order to further the mechanism of cultural exchanges, strengthen cooperation in the fields of engineering education, and promote educational reform between China and the EU, the Chinese Ministry of Education and CLUSTER brought together 18 Chinese universities (including USTB) and 12 European universities together to create the Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform (SEEEP). They established an annual Sino-EU Engineering Education Symposium to discuss sustainable development in engineering education. The Symposium’s theme this year was “The Challenges Facing Sino-EU Engineering Education”. More than 200 Chinese and European representatives focused on and discussed eight topics including “innovative doctoral education”, “technology for learning”, “MOOC extension” and “internationalization”.

As one of the first Chinese universities to sign a cooperative agreement with a foreign university (RWTH Aachen, in Germany), USTB has a long tradition of international engagement. In addition to its partnership with RWTH Aachen for 36 years, USTB has established cooperative ties with other European universities including the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology, KU Leuven, the University of Dundee, and the University of Limerick in Ireland. These agreements have facilitated the cooperation in teacher and academic exchanges, joint research, and student education, having achieved remarkable outcomes.

During the Symposium Vice President Wang met with Vice President Ramon Wyss from the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology, and former Dean Ludo Froyen from KU Leuven, and discussed with them about new areas for cooperation between their universities.
