Mahindra Corporation Visited USTB

On May 22, 2015, USTB President Zhang Xinxin met with a delegation from Mahindra Corp., led by Executive Vice-president Mr. Prince Augustin. Director Guo Kanjun from the International Office also attended the meeting. The two sides briefly introduced their respective institutions and research interests, and discussed future opportunities for collaboration.
 
President Zhang presented on USTB’s academic focus on metallurgy, materials, mining, mechanical engineering, and other fields, and how it has greatly contributed to the field of research. Over the last 5 years researchers from USTB have published articles in prestigious journals on metallurgy that have accounted for half the articles in the journals. At the same time USTB greatly values international cooperation, and has built collaborative relationships with universities, research institutes, and multinational corporations. Last year USTB and Tata Steel formally entered into a partnership to form a joint-research center which will begin work on a number of projects this year. USTB has also entered into a partnership with Shell Oil Company, and President Zhang expressed his hope that USTB and Mahindra would enter into a partnership for joint scientific research and engineer training.
 
Next, Vice-president Augustin introduced the Mahindra company. Mahindra was founded in 1945 as an Indian company, but has become multinational and has subsidiaries in the U.S., Europe, Australia, South Korea, and China, and has almost 12,000 employees. In 2010, with an over $110 billion turnover, made Mahindra one of the top ten companies in India. The scope of its business includes automotive, agriculture, information and technology, finance, infrastructure and real estate, hotels, etc. Vice-president Augustin expressed his hope that Mahindra would be able to cooperate with USTB in heavy manufacturing and other fields.

After the meeting the delegation visited USTB’s Key National Laboratory and Mechanical College. Together with Deputy Dean Zhang Jie, the delegation held a discussion with the mechanical engineering students.
