On November 22, 2017, thirteen USTB Taiwanese exchange students along with USTB staff participated in the “Entering the Chinese Academy of Engineering” event under the leadership of Guo Kanjun, Director of the International Office.
The students began by watching an introductory video to the Chinese Academy of Engineering to learn about its founding, work, and achievements, ultimately working towards the benefit of the Chinese nation. Afterwards they visited the Science and Technology Achievement Exhibition, Academician Pavilion, and the Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition to witness the work of the Academy’s members.
Students also watched a demonstration of the power generation of the Three Gorges Dam project, the largest modern engineering achievement in China.
Afterwards the students learned about the creation of a type of hybrid rice invented by Dr. Yuan Longping (termed “Oriental Magic Rice”) which yields 847 kilograms per hectare. It has greatly served to alleviate food shortages in China.
Entrance to the Chinese Academy of Engineering is the highest honor bestowed upon national engineers and scientists in recognition for their efforts. The visit to the exhibition helped to demonstrate to students technological achievements made in China and will hopefully spur their own future innovative efforts.
