USTB and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology hold 12th Academic Forum

On November 24, the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology hosted USTB at their university for a 12^th joint-academic forum. The forum’s theme “Connect-Construct-Innovate” aimed to help encourage student talents working across the Taiwan Strait. Amongst the attendees were Dai Changxian, President of Pingtung University. Nine USTB officials, including Dean Jinlong Zhe, were invited to attend.

President Dai began the ceremony with a welcome speech. He discussed how the purpose of the symposium, to encourage new talents, was of especial importance in cross-strait relations. With the rapid growth of technology, a key issue to address is how best to make such advances serve mankind. The seminar was then broken down into 12 consecutive sessions with the purpose of allowing attendees to share in each other’s knowledge.

In his speech, Dean Jin spoke of China entering a new stage of innovation-driven development. Within China the economy, humanities, and science & technology are growing quickly. Under such conditions, what is the best method of cultivating new talents? He then praised the symposium for being a good platform for students and educations to discuss such issues.

Subsequently, Professor Zhao Shanru of Pingtung University and USTB Professor Lin Hai delivered the keynote speeches entitled “The Status and Future Prospects of the Changzhao Policy” and “Construction and Practice of a Student-Oriented Undergraduate Talent Training System”, respectively.

Following the opening ceremony teachers and students from both universities delivered presentations. USTB students Li Rong and Song Bo were invited to present their dissertations. Afterwards the attendees participated in a celebration ceremony for Pingtung University’s 93^rd anniversary, and then went to visit National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. There they met with the Director of the International Division, Deans of the schools of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Humanities, and Academy of Sciences.

The visit to Pingtung University was highly regarded and served to both deepen relations between our two universities and further strengthen cross-strait relations.
