Ireland Ministry of Education Sends Delegation to USTB
On October 29th, Minister Jan O’Sullivan, Minister for Education and Skills, brought a delegation to USTB. Prof. Zhang Xinxin, president of USTB, Prof. Wang Ge, assistant to the president, Prof. Wan Farong, deputy dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof. Zhang Wujun, deputy dean of School of Humanity and Law and deputy director of Office of the Principal Du Jihui met with the delegation.
President Zhang Xinxin extended his warm welcome to the delegation. He expressed that USTB attached great importance to pragmatic cooperation programs with foreign universities. In recent years, USTB has formed close relationships with universities from Ireland. Meanwhile, the mobility program being conducted by USTB and UL has run been smoothly. During this visiting, USTB and UL agreed to renew their cooperation agreement. Additionally there were introduced new a mode of cooperation, including an expanded agreement in different fields of expertise. USTB believes this new agreement will benefit more students.
Minister Jan O’Sullivan expressed her gratitude for USTB’s hospitality, and said they in addition to the Ministry of Education, her delegation had only visited USTB and Peking University during the trip. Though the schedule was busy, the results of the trip were significant. Then, Minister Jan O’Sullivan gave a brief introduction of higher education in Ireland. Ireland maintains high standards in the realm of higher education. UL is a world famous university, as well as the 2015 annual global best university. She assured that further cooperation between USTB and UL will benefit both sides a great deal.
Vice president Paul Mc Cutcheon first thanked USTB for its warm hospitality and expressed happiness to visit USTB once again. He then gave an overview of McMaster University’s latest achievements. Students from USTB’s exchange program gave a spectacular performance, which made a deep impression on vice president Paul Mc Cutcheon. He expressed that students from USTB are more than welcome to come to UL for study and communication.
At the end, USTB and UL renewed their cooperation agreement. The ceremony was attended by Minister Jan O’Sullivan and other colleagues. In the renew agreement, there was added a new 1+1 program for masters and added materials engineering, law and foreign languages majors.
