On September 25, USTB’s International Office Director Guo Kanjun was invited to participate in the Confucius Institute’s Open Day, with the theme of “cultural exchange and world peace”. Representatives from 38 countries attended, including the Cervantes Institute, the Russian Cultural Center, and other Confucius Institute partners, making over 500 participants altogether.
The opening ceremony of the Open Day was hosted by the Confucius Institute Director Xu Lin. During the opening ceremony both Chinese and foreign students performed the quartet “Lift your veil”, “Love never ends”, and poetry recitals. Speeches were delivered by the Irish ambassador Kang Baole, the Confucius Institute Headquarters Director, and the Foreign Trade University President Shi Jianjun, the “Chinese Language Ambassador” student representative, and doctoral candidate Sheng Mixue from Confucius China Studies Program of Peking University.
After the opening ceremony, the Open Day activities included forums, lectures, theater, explanations of Chinese traditional medicine, and other cultural activities.
Since 2004 it has been reported that in 134 countries there have been established 495 Confucius Institutes and over 1000 primary and secondary Confucius classrooms. The first Open Day was held in 2014, when Confucius Institute celebrated the 10th anniversary.
