On March 21, 2018, Martin Freer, Head of Physics and Astronomy and Director of the Birmingham Energy Institute at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom visited USTB for an exchange visit. President Zhang Xinxin met with the guests and the two parties held cordial talks.
President Zhang and Professor Freer briefly reviewed the results of cooperation between the two schools. Since the signing of the inter-school agreement in 2015, the two universities have conducted fruitful cooperation, including the establishment of the USTB-University of Birmingham Joint Center for Energy & Environment Research and Education (CEERE), and collaboration in the areas of research, innovation, and personnel training. This work has received special funding from the China National Study Fund. This year the two universities signed a 2+2 Student Co-Cultivation Project Agreement and began selecting student applicants. This time, Professor Freer led a delegation and will hold a special seminar on “High-Efficiency Pyrolysis of Organic Wastes and Energy Utilization” with the USTB School of Energy and discuss the details of the joint application for the Sino-UK scientific research fund. It is hoped that in the future, the two universities will be able to carry out more substantive cooperation in the fields of energy, environment and materials.
Afterwards, the delegation visited the USTB Affiliated High School to discuss the possibility of cooperation with the school and conducted in-depth exchanges with the teachers and students.
This visit further enhanced mutual understanding and trust between our universities, and laid a solid foundation for the development of various forms of cooperation in the future.
