USTB Invited to Confucius Institute Conference

On Dec. 7th, the 8th Global Confucius Institute Conference took place in Beijing. Vice Premier Liu Yandong, President of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, attended the opening ceremony and made a speech. Presided over by Yuan Guiren, Minister of the Ministry of Education, the opening ceremony brought together Chinese and foreign representatives from 120 Confucius Institutes all over the world. USTB was also invited as a cooperative partner of the Confucius Institute. Luo Weidong, USTB’s chancellor, and Wang Ge, assistant to the school’s president, went to the ceremony on behalf USTB.

Various events, such as the President’s Forum, the Director’s Forum: Sharing of Confucius Institutes’ Best Practices, the Exhibition of Chinese Language and Culture Teaching Materials, and the Information Fair of the Headquarters' Programs, were also held during the conference. Representatives present at the conference carried out in-depth discussions over a range of topics including the plans of the Confucius Institute and college development, the Confucius Institute Day and the implementation of the “Confucius China Studies Program”.

The Confucius Institute, co-established by USTB and De Montfort University, officially came into operation this year, with many Chinese cultural activities, such as Mandarin Chinese open courses, Chinese calligraphy activities and the tea ceremony.
